The Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of tasks that support the efficient operation of the Engineering or Technical department at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destination. Key responsibilities include maintaining, inspecting, and optimizing the performance of mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery. The Mechanical Technician assists engineers or senior technical staff in analyzing equipment performance, identifying issues, and implementing solutions to improve reliability and efficiency. They perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical problems, and ensure machinery operates safely and according to established standards. Additionally, they may support installation projects, repairs, and upgrades, while documenting work performed and reporting any operational concerns to management. This role requires a hands-on approach, technical problem-solving skills, and collaboration with other team members to ensure smooth and safe mechanical operations.
1. Mechanical Operations & Maintenance
- Assist engineers or senior technical staff with mechanical design, installation, and maintenance tasks.
- Perform diagnostic tests on mechanical systems to identify issues and verify proper functioning.
- Troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions and breakdowns, performing timely and effective repairs.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans to reduce equipment downtime and extend machinery lifespan.
2. Efficiency Optimization & Technical Performance
- Adjust machinery and equipment settings to optimize mechanical efficiency and performance.
- Analyze performance data and provide feedback to improve mechanical processes and operations.
- Support upgrades, retrofits, or modifications to enhance equipment capabilities and productivity.
3. Documentation, Inventory & Compliance
- Document mechanical processes, maintenance activities, and repair histories accurately.
- Monitor parts availability, maintain inventory, and ensure timely replenishment of supplies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.
4. Training & Team Support
- Train colleagues and junior technicians on the safe and efficient operation of machinery and equipment.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members in carrying out maintenance or repair tasks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth workflow and operational continuity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential/Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or Associate's degree in mechanical engineering preferred or equivalent experience is required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus.
Essential Experience Required
- A minimum of two years' experience as a mechanical technician in a related industry.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering designs, installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Proficiency in mechanical design and diagnostic testing software.
- Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Great organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests.
- Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers, and co-workers.
- Must be physically fit.
- Must have strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to multi-task and think critically.
- Previous work experience preferred.
- Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
- Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
- May be required to work shifts.
