The Supervisor, Clinical Staff Professional Development provides operational oversight and coordination of clinical staff performance and professional development processes that support safe, high quality, and compliant shipboard healthcare services. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Clinical Staff Professional Development, this role supports fleetwide execution of established performance frameworks, competency assessments remediation pathways, promotion workflows, and development initiatives that are aligned with Clinical Services priorities.
As a clinically experienced Registered Nurse , the Supervisor applies clinical expertise to review, validate, and monitor assessments of clinical practice, documentation quality, professionalism, teamwork, and compliance with clinical, public health, and regulatory standards. The role does not provide direct clinical care or independent disciplinary authority, but supports shipboard leaders and HR partners by ensuring consistency, accuracy, and governance compliance across performance related processes.
The Supervisor collaborates with multiple shipboard and shoreside stakeholders to coordinate performance activities, track and report on improvement actions, identify risks or deviations, and escalate issues as appropriate. This role supports alignment of professional development opportunities with operational needs, clinical risk profiles, and regulatory requirements across a global fleet.
Essential Functions:
Performance Reviews:
Reviews shipboard leaders’ assessment of clinical staff performance against defined role expectations by providing clinically informed reviews related to clinical skills, documentation quality, patient interactions, professionalism, teamwork, and policy compliance.
Reviews and validates performance documentation, including handover reports, appraisals, and multi-source feedback, to ensure consistency, objectivity, and alignment with corporate standards.
Performs clinical documentation audits and targeted record reviews to identify trends, recurring issues, and systemic improvement opportunities, escalating significant findings as appropriate.
Ensures governance, compliant recording and maintenance of performance related information in accordance with corporate policies and data retention requirements.
Provides subject matter expertise to the review and revision of policies, procedures, and guidance documents related to clinical staff performance and professional conduct.
Performance Improvement & Remediation Support
Supports shipboard leaders and HR partners in the development, implementation, and monitoring of performance improvement plans (PIPs), remediation strategies, and individual development plans.
Tracks progress and compliance with agreed performance actions, identifying delays, barriers, or emerging risks and escalating concerns through appropriate governance channels.
Coordinates communication between shipboard leadership, HR, and Clinical Services to ensure timely feedback, coaching support, and alignment of corrective actions.
Advises and supports leaders in addressing conflict or team dynamics that may impact clinical performance, professionalism, or patient safety.
Contributes clinically informed input to quality improvement initiatives arising from patient safety events, complaints, audits, inspections, and public health findings.
Promotions & Professional Development
Coordinates and administers Supervises medical staff promotion and progression processes, ensuring adherence to eligibility criteria, documentation standards, and timelines.
Reviews performance and competency evidence to support identification of promotion ready staff and emerging leaders , providing recommendations for panel consideration.
Prepares and quality checks promotion documentation and supporting materials for review panels and approval authorities.
Communicates outcomes and development recommendations to Scheduling, shipboard leadership, HR, and other relevant stakeholders.
Facilitates access to professional development opportunities aligned with identified clinical performance gaps and leadership readiness.
Supports leadership lifecycle processes, including leadership orientation, probation reviews, and confirmation in rank assessments.
Contributes to the development and maintenance of competency frameworks in collaboration with Learning & Development and Clinical Services.
Clinical Quality Initiatives
Collaborates with shoreside teams, including public health to support performance monitoring, training needs, and professional development of health staff.
Supports alignment of performance and training initiatives with public health requirements, outbreak preparedness, and regulatory standards.
Partners with Learning & Development team to support onboarding, new-to-sea integration, and transition programs for clinicians and public health staff.
Works with Scheduling teams to optimize clinical skill mix, provide mentoring opportunities, and ensure learning coverage onboard.
Supports and contributes to clinical quality improvement initiatives and ad hoc projects that support Clinical Services priorities.

Scope: This role supports fleetwide clinical staff performance and professional development activities across all four North American brands. It contributes to Clinical Services objectives by ensuring consistent execution of performance processes, competency assessment, and quality driven development initiatives.
Problem solving: Applies clinical knowledge and structured analysis to identify performance gaps, support remediation, and recommend targeted development actions based on audits, quality findings, and operational feedback.
Impact: Contributes to improved clinical quality, patient safety, staff professionalism, regulatory compliance, and readiness of shipboard medical and public health teams.
Leadership: Provides clinical guidance and operational support through collaboration and influence. Supports shipboard leaders and shoreside teams in applying consistent, fair, and evidence-based performance practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's in Hospitality, Logistics, Business Administration, Industrial Engineer
Registered Nurse (RN) with active licensure required
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare field required
Certification or education in clinical quality, patient safety, leadership, or healthcare management preferred
Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience, including shipboard healthcare experience preferred
Experience supporting performance management, clinical documentation review, quality improvement, or professional development activities
Familiarity with LMS platforms, electronic health records, and Microsoft 365 tools
Experience working with multidisciplinary clinical teams in complex operational environments
Travel: Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely
Work Conditions: Work beyond normal business hours or on weekends may be required occasionally to support business needs, projects, or operations.
Physical Demands Requires regular movement throughout company facilities.
This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
