We’re looking for an amazing Facilities Caretaker Technician, Maintenance professional to fill this role, which is based in our Mt. McKinley Princess Lodge. You’ll be a part of the team that maintains the overall workings of the hotel property, ensuring the facilities are clean and in good operating condition. You will provide reliability, dependability, and a positive attitude in a diverse environment as you support multiple departments, ensuring the safest and most enjoyable experience for our guests and team members alike. Caretakers will spend a minimum of three (3) nights on the property per workweek and respond to after-hours business or emergency needs.

Responsibilities
- Performs preventative maintenance and responds to after hour business emergency maintenance on building systems, plumbing, electrical, mechanical control systems, and related components; tests system competency and component devices and evaluates performance.
- Repairs and maintains a variety of facilities systems, components, and structures; repairs building plumbing, low-voltage, and line voltage electric systems, door hardware, fire and life safety protection equipment/systems, sprinkler systems, sensors and related hardware and software; constructs and maintains indoor/outdoor facilities, fans, lights and related; conducts structural inspections for safety. Knows and understands all safety procedures and trains seasonal staff on safety procedures related to lodge operations.
- Performs service and preventative maintenance on small, motorized equipment engines and carts; troubleshoots equipment problems and identifies when appropriate for an external service provider to make repairs or perform warranty work. Maintains induction and air handling units; cleans and inspects all equipment, completes filter changes, lubricates, maintains, and services mechanical and refrigeration and/or cooling systems.
- Identifies repair and maintenance projects requiring the assistance of contractors or vendors; participates in documenting challenges that require contractor repairs; monitors work of vendors or contractors.
- Assists management in determining training needs for seasonal work teams and assists in the training of less-skilled staff in facilities maintenance trades. Responsible for paper and electronic recordkeeping related to preventative and corrective maintenance and repair, tracks and closes assigned work orders; may monitor work orders assigned to others and assist them in managing work orders.
- Responds to emergencies to ensure that all facilities are protected and remain operational. Assists with tasks required in preparing to open and close lodges for winter operations, including winterization and snow and ice removal, systems and equipment checks, and start-up operations as assigned.
- Operates carts and service vehicles; responsible for safe operation and reporting any observed maintenance needs or accidents. Maintains appropriate records and reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Forklift driver certification is required within six months of employment. Random drug screening and a valid driver’s license for the operation of a motor vehicle with a clean driving record for the past three years.
One year of facilities maintenance, construction, or repair experience in a commercial or industrial setting.
High School diploma or GED.
Requires regular movement throughout company facilities.
Must be able to frequently bend, stand, kneel, climb ladders, reach below and above shoulders, and crawl.
Wrist, hand, and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment and materials.
May need to stand for extended periods of time.
Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
May be requested to work a different shift or beyond normal business hours.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Holland America Line/Princess is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Caretaker duties, must be able to spend a minimum three (3) nights on the property per workweek.
Maintains a broad working knowledge of materials, systems, and code requirements related to maintenance of facilities. You will need the knowledge of power and hand tools used in facilities maintenance; recordkeeping techniques and regulations, including use of automated record systems; OSHA workplace health and safety standards and procedures; use of computers to use automated recordkeeping tools, automated system controls, and email; customer service practices.
Working knowledge of computer programs to maintain logs, inventories and purchasing records; respond to service requests and emails; monitor and manage work orders.
The ability to use and train others on a variety of tools and power equipment; plan and coordinate work; track and plan preventative maintenance work; maintain records and reports in computerized and written formats, compliant with regulatory requirements.
The ability to effectively make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately; learn and apply health and safety regulations; optimize efficiencies provided by automated maintenance management and service request tools; work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
The ability to lift 60 lbs./23 kg and occasionally move up to 100 lbs., work around equipment safely, and stand/walk for extended periods of time.
The ability to clearly communicate, verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees, management, and customers.
The ability to prioritize work while maintaining attention to details and time constraints, working independently or in a team environment.
The ability to support and comply with all company policies, procedures, guidelines, and safety standards, both at work and in housing (if applicable).
