In our continuous journey of growth and innovation within the Maritime Team here at Carnival UK, we are seeking ISM Superintendent to bring fresh insights and expertise to our department. 

Role Overview

The role holder plays a key leadership role in supporting the ISM Team to ensure effective management of ISM at CUK. They engage with relevant stakeholders to facilitate the timely and efficient resolution and closure of audit and investigation actions.

The role holder is responsible for identifying and flagging significant changes to legislation and ABG processes that require action to maintain compliance. They ensure adherence to relevant laws, codes, and industry standards, and coordinate the development of new company policies and procedures as needed. Additionally, they provide support for the implementation of the new Global HESS Management System (Global HESS 2.0).

Working closely with operational management, the role holder helps assess safe practices recommended by Flag States, Class, and other international bodies, fostering a strong safety culture.

In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Risk, Safety & Compliance, the role holder liaises with Carnival Corporation and CUK SMEs to develop Corporate Global HESS and OL Line procedures.

The role holder leads the review of ISM-related content, including the status of audit findings, non-conformances, tasks, investigation actions, and, when necessary, ship HESS Steering Committee and HESS Action Team reports.

This pivotal role will involve:

  • Lead in supporting the ISM Team in ensuring compliance with the ISM Code.
  • Support CUK on the Global HESS replacement project, working in conjunction with the Senior Manager, Risk, Safety & Compliance and ISM Superintendents to ensure that CUK requirements are incorporated at ABG level. 
  • Identifying process improvements where efficiency can be enhanced and flagging risks to senior management. 
  • In conjunction with the Senior Manager, Risk, Safety & Compliance and ISM Superintendents, responsible for co-ordinating effective corrective and preventative actions for ship and shore findings in order to compile post-audit responses to internal stakeholders and jointly leading Audit Review Committee (ARC) meetings with CUK Ship and Shore Management.
  • Responsible for ensuring findings for the various audits/inspections are entered into the appropriate database (currently Global HESS)
  • Providing Audit, Non-Conformance and other relevant reports for senior management and other departments as required.
  • Liaise with CUK Ship and Shore Management to monitor management action plans and audit/inspection item closure.
  • Undertake regular ship visits to engage with ship SMT’s and operations teams on effectiveness of Global HESS procedures, the implementation of CAPs and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Providing instruction/training to new CUK Ship and Shore staff on use of Global HESS database when required. Review effectiveness of Global HESS training and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Identifying process improvement in areas where efficiency can be enhanced within the Global HESS or other areas of the business

This role is positioned at CUK08 level within our organization and is available on a full-time , 9 month fixed term basis. We offer hybrid work including up to two days from home.

  • Industry specific experience 
  • Experience of maintaining or reaching externally audited management standards such as ISM
  • Experience of working with senior management
  • The ability to organise and prioritise workload
  • A flexible approach to working hours

Knowledge/ Experience – essential:

  • Understanding of the ISM Code and its application
  • Understanding of a Safety Management System (SMS) as detailed by the ISM Code.
