The role

We are looking for a Public Health Consultant to join our team here at Carnival UK.

This exciting and varied role consists of supporting the planning and delivery of Public Health Policies for our fleet of 9 ships over our two brands, P&O Cruises and Cunard Line.

You will contribute to the continuous improvement of the program both shore side and on board, working as a team to support operating standards and comply with global Public Health legislation. Working towards the goal of safeguarding our passengers and ships companies from public health risks.  

The nature of the role is varied and can change from day to day. You will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects to improve the public health space, supporting the on-board teams and travelling visiting the fleet.   

In summary you will:

  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of the full range of administrative processes, office activities and fleet support.
  • You will provide specialist knowledge to various teams on board and shore side on a range of public health topics including food hygiene, recreational and drinking water safety, infectious disease control, pest control and health and safety.
  • Provide advice, guidance and expertise where required to both internal and external customers on all matters related to Public Health
  • Identify Public Health skills in the Deck, Hotel and Technical, Management structure onboard, and develop these to deal with public health issues effectively
  • Undertake formal public health audits, inspections, and focused reviews on board the ships of the fleet following departmental procedures, formats, and templates
  • Carry out any monitoring, management, and control duties in relation to Integrated Pest Management, Outbreak Prevention & Response, Food Complaint Management, Food Safety/Hygiene, and any other Public Health areas.
  • Provide analysis of trends impacting public health compliance on fleet

Our role categories range from CUK15 (entry level) to CUK1 (Brand President) so you can clearly see internal development opportunities. This role is a CUK08 and is offered on a full-time permanent contract with at least two days based in our Southampton office

About you

  • It is important to us that you have strong personal skills including communication skills, the ability to solve problems, organisational skills, the ability to cope well under pressure, people management skills and the ability to think conceptually.
  • In addition, you’ll need to demonstrate professional integrity and a commitment to your specialism.
  • You will have a relevant environmental health related degree, diploma or qualification including any technical qualification including public health elements (water safety, air system safety, pool & spa safety, and management) or food safety related catering qualification.
  • Possession of the CIEH Level 4 Award in Food Safety or Level 3 Awards in HACCP in Catering or Food Safety, or equivalent or other international certification for public or environmental health
