Job Description

We recognise the value in having people with a variety of backgrounds, experience and skills in our business. That means the role requirements here should be seen as a guide, not a checklist. If you have more, less or different experiences, but really relevant skills, we’d love to hear from you.

We work flexibly and will help you to find a healthy balance of remote working and time in our fantastic Southampton office, collaborating, taking part in events and getting to know people that makes working with us so rewarding. We welcome the opportunity to discuss reduced hours and job share arrangements.

The Role

The Maritime Operations Coordinator is an exciting and varied role that is key to the business. You will be the focal point for coordination, contact and support for both our fleet (P&O Cruises and Cunard) and our head office team at Carnival UK.

This role is based in the ORCA Operations team (Operations, Risk, Coordination and Activity) where you will lead the responses to activity that threatens business as usual both ship and shore, working closely with onboard senior management teams and a broad range of shoreside stakeholders to ensure that the operations run efficiently and effectively.

No two days will be the same as you can never guarantee what will happen!   This could also be a fantastic opportunity for those looking to make the transition from ship to shore.

Duties include:

  • Monitor daily fleet operations, compiling and presenting complicated situations to the wider business in a clear and consistent way which are compelling and unambiguous.
  • Lead daily operational scrums ensuring that key impacts are raised in a timely manner.
  • Key operational contact for incidents and deviations, ensuring clear communication and ensuring effective information flows.
  • Lead on operational deviations, such as itinerary changes and impact of technical issues, coordinating ship and shore side operational teams to develop balanced solutions to complex problems.
  • Close liaison with the on-call crisis teams, in particular the Incident Commander to ensure all incidents are escalated to L3/4 with a clear brief to the Incident Commander.

Our role categories range from CUK15 (entry level) to CUK1 (Brand President) so you can clearly see internal development opportunities. This role is a CUK09 and is offered on a full time 12 months Fixed-term contract basis, with hybrid working of at least 3 days in our Southampton office. The team also works a rotated schedule, meaning that some weekends will be required, as well as some travel due to business needs.

About You

Fresh ideas and different perspectives are what excite us most and help us to succeed. Alongside bringing these to the role, you’ll also need:

  • Qualified deck or technical ships officer / or equivalent  in another transportation industry
  • A-levels or equivalent
  • Working within a fast-paced operational  environment
  • Experience of managing and leading groups of stakeholders
  • Creation and delivery of operational/crisis contingency plans

Being part of our team has its advantages…

We’re a holiday company so we know there’s more to life than work. Our comprehensive range of benefits are designed to help your personal and financial health and wellbeing.
