In our continuous journey of growth and innovation within the Maritime Team here at Carnival UK, we are seeking ISM Superintendent to bring fresh insights and expertise to our department.
This position takes a lead in ensuring CUK maintains effective management of the functional requirements of a safety management system as required by the ISM code. The position works closely with stakeholders to drive timely resolution of audit, inspection and investigation actions, ensure compliance with evolving legislation and industry standards, and support the rollout of the new Global HESS Management System. You’ll help shape company policies, foster a strong safety culture, and lead the review of ISM-related content and reporting.
You’ll also oversee corporate incident reporting and governance of our reporting systems, working in collaboration with internal and global teams.
This pivotal role will involve:
- Lead in supporting the ISM Team in ensuring compliance with the ISM Code.
- Support CUK on the Global HESS replacement project, working in conjunction with the Senior Manager, Risk & Safety and ISM Superintendents to ensure that CUK requirements are incorporated at the Corporate level.
- Identifying process improvements where efficiency can be enhanced and flagging risks to senior management.
- In conjunction with the Senior Manager, Risk and Safety and ISM Superintendents, responsible for co-ordinating effective corrective and preventative actions for ship and shore findings in order to compile post-audit responses to internal stakeholders and jointly leading Audit Review Committee (ARC) meetings with CUK Ship and Shore Management.
- Responsible for ensuring findings for the various audits/inspections are entered into the appropriate database (currently Global HESS)
- Providing Audit, Non-Conformance and other relevant reports for senior management and other departments as required.
- Liaise with CUK Ship and Shore Management to monitor management action plans and audit/inspection item closure.
- Undertake regular ship visits to engage with ship SMT’s and operations teams on effectiveness of Global HESS procedures, the implementation of CAPs and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Administration of our reporting software including monitoring and actioning SeaEvent inbox.Participate in SeaEvent Governance Working Group and monitoring FOC reports.
This role is positioned at CUK08 level within our organization and is available on a full-time, 9 months fixed term contract basis. We offer hybrid work including up to two days from home.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to work with, provide advice to, train, and promote excellence in Occupational Health and Safety and ISM Compliance
Industry specific experience or transferable to the leisure/cruise environment
Experience of maintaining or reaching externally audited management standards such as ISM
Experience of working with senior management
The ability to organise and prioritise workload
A flexible approach to working hours
Knowledge/ Experience – essential:
Understanding of the ISM Code and its application
Understanding of a Safety Management System (SMS) as detailed by the ISM Code.
Experience in occupational health and safety within industry: demonstrating good knowledge of working at height, lifting equipment, electricity at work, lock out/tag out & permit to work would be beneficial.
Experience at sea in an officer role would be advantageous but not essential
