Role Overview
The Assistant Superintendent, Technical supports the planning and delivery of refit and in-service technical projects across the P&O Cruises and Cunard fleets.
Working closely with shoreside engineering colleagues, onboard teams, procurement and suppliers, the role contributes to specification development, contractor coordination, project monitoring and continuous improvement of asset performance to ensure work is delivered safely, compliantly and to commercial expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, management and execution of refit and in-service technical projects to defined scope, quality, schedule and cost.
- Prepare and manage technical work scopes and specifications, supporting tender processes and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate suppliers, contractors and procurement activities to ensure effective project delivery, quality standards and cost control.
- Monitor project progress, resolve technical issues and contribute to continuous improvement of asset and project performance.
What You'll Bring
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical, scientific or engineering discipline, or experience in a licensed onboard position as a Deck or Technical Officer.
- Operational experience of managing equipment, asset risk, reliability and availability.
- Experience supporting technical projects, producing specifications and coordinating contractors.
- The ability to work collaboratively with technical specialists, suppliers and operational teams.
Success Criteria:
- Able to take ownership and management of technical projects on board our ships, primarily in refit and occasionally in service. Typical projects include but are not limited to pipework replacement, recreational water facility installations, laundry & galley upgrades & modifications, structural maintenance or enhancements
- Demonstrates growth potential and develops technical competence through exposure to a range of challenges and work areas.
- Ready to take ownership of projects end-to-end: working with ship's staff, shore colleagues and contractors to successfully plan, deliver and complete technical projects
- Takes ownership of outcomes and sees work through to completion rather than focusing only on assigned tasks.
- Supports overall project / refit team success by taking on tasks such as building of detailed interference plans, development of tender documentation, engagement with classification societies & Flag states and logistical planning.
About You: The Ideal Candidate
- Strong engineering or technical aptitude with an interest in fleet asset management and project delivery.
- Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to manage technical, scheduling and commercial challenges.
- Strong communication skills, able to work with a range of stakeholders and coordinate across multiple workstreams.
- Organised, proactive and committed to continuous improvement, safety and quality outcomes
This is a full-time, permanent position and is aligned with our hybrid working approach. There will be travel required to our ships when they are in service and at dry dock.
