The UX Designer at Holland America Line (HAL) is responsible for creating responsive, guest-centric digital experiences across HAL’s web properties. This role involves designing user interfaces, developing wireframes and prototypes, and contributing to the evolution of the Design System and web standards. The UX Designer will work closely with UX research, analytics, A/B testing teams, marketing, and front-end developers to optimize the guest experience and support business objectives. The position focuses on delivering intuitive, accessible, and visually consistent designs across desktop, mobile, and tablet platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in modern design and prototyping tools, along with a solid understanding of user experience principles and information architecture. They will also demonstrate the ability to translate business requirements into effective design solutions while managing multiple projects. Strong collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • UX/UI Design & Execution: Develops end-to-end design solutions that translate complex requirements into intuitive, high-quality digital interfaces. Produces wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and final visual designs to support new features and enhancements. Ensures all deliverables meet usability, accessibility, and responsiveness standards across devices and platforms. Applies structured design methodologies to balance user needs with business objectives and technical constraints. Reviews and refines design outputs to ensure clarity, scalability, and implementation readiness. Delivers work within defined timelines while maintaining a high level of design quality and attention to detail.

  • Design Systems & Standards: Builds and evolves scalable design frameworks that enable consistency across digital experiences. Creates and maintains reusable components, templates, and pattern libraries to support efficient design and development workflows. Documents standards and specifications to ensure alignment across teams and platforms. Ensures adherence to established visual and interaction guidelines while identifying opportunities for refinement. Supports governance of design assets to maintain quality and reduce fragmentation. Drives continuous improvement of design processes to enhance efficiency and consistency at scale.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engages with cross-functional stakeholders to align design outcomes with broader business and technical priorities. Translates stakeholder input into clear design direction that supports project goals and user needs. Partners with technical teams to ensure feasibility and accuracy during implementation. Facilitates effective communication through presentations, design reviews, and feedback sessions. Incorporates diverse perspectives to strengthen solutions and reduce rework. Builds strong working relationships that enable efficient delivery and shared accountability.

  • Optimization & Insights: Applies data-driven approaches to evaluate and improve digital experiences over time. Interprets performance metrics and testing results to inform iterative design enhancements. Identifies opportunities to increase engagement, conversion, and overall experience effectiveness. Supports structured testing efforts by defining design variations and success criteria. Synthesizes qualitative and quantitative insights into actionable recommendations. Monitors outcomes to ensure improvements are sustained and aligned with intended goals.

  • Innovation & Brand Enablement: Explores new tools, technologies, and design approaches to enhance digital capabilities and experience quality. Identifies opportunities to elevate brand expression through thoughtful and modern design execution. Contributes ideas that support broader marketing and digital initiatives. Evaluates emerging trends to determine relevance and potential application within the organization. Shares knowledge and best practices to strengthen overall design maturity across teams. Demonstrates adaptability and continuous learning to remain effective in a rapidly evolving digital environment.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Scope: This role operates within the HAL Marketing function, supporting digital experience design across web-based guest touchpoints. The position contributes to the broader e-commerce and digital strategy by enhancing how guests interact with online platforms. Work is primarily focused on HAL but aligns with enterprise-wide digital standards and shared capabilities where applicable. The role influences user experience outcomes across multiple digital properties, including booking flows and content-driven pages. It supports initiatives that impact both acquisition and engagement throughout the guest journey. The position functions in a remote environment while maintaining close alignment with distributed teams. The role requires adaptability to evolving priorities within a fast-paced digital landscape. Overall, the position plays a key role in advancing the effectiveness and consistency of HAL’s digital presence.

  • Problem solving: This role requires the ability to interpret complex and sometimes ambiguous requirements and translate them into clear, actionable design solutions. Essential/Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Media, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard design and prototyping tools (for example, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, or similar).

  • Foundational knowledge of responsive design principles and accessibility standards (for example, ADA/WCAG).

  • Understanding of front-end technologies (for example, HTML, CSS) sufficient to collaborate effectively with development teams.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design solutions across digital platforms required. Must be submitted with application to be considered.

Essential Experience Required:

  • 2–4 years of experience in UX, UI, or digital product design within a web or e-commerce environment.

  • Experience translating business and user requirements into wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity design solutions.

  • Experience working within established design systems and contributing to scalable design components and standards.

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, analytics, and development partners.

  • Experience applying usability principles and leveraging qualitative and quantitative insights to inform design decisions.

  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Travel: Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

This position is classified as “in-office.”  As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Holland office in Seattle, WA Monday through Thursday each week.

  • Base Salary Range: $72,200 to $97,500 The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidate’s qualifications and experience uniquely.
