This position is responsible for the direct oversight of Holland America Line and Seabourn shipboard Finance teams and financial processes and procedures, which assist management in the consistent and proper administration of Company standards. This position is the business manager of the shipboard property management system and must collaborate and lead projects that have impacts to the onboard financial processes and is responsible for coordinating initiatives with other departments. This role partners closely with the Controllership and FP&A organizations in researching, prioritizing and leading initiatives to improve processes, finding efficiency opportunities, adopting best practices, and optimizing the utilization of existing technologies. This incumbent will need to have a strong working knowledge of Shipboard Finance performance and operations management, to optimize productivity and oversee adherence to policies and procedures. Strategic forward- thinking skills will require this person to directly manage daily decisions on behalf of the Finance shipboard operations team members. The individual has direct management of the traveling Finance Fleet Managers and oversight of Finance shipboard positions which are responsible for shipboard revenue operations (including guest billing), crew payroll and compensation, cash management, and inventory accounting; In addition, this position directly manages the Crew Appreciation and Service Charge program.

Responsibilities:

Direct Oversight of Finance Fleet Managers and Shipboard Finance 

  • Establishes/monitors department and establishes priorities, goals, and projects to ensure timely and accurate project and task completion.

  • Communicates departmental progress on new initiatives and emerging issues to director on a regular basis. 

  • Leads staff meetings to direct team to achieve departmental and Company goals, while also communicating events / changes going on inside the department and the company.

  • Cultivates an environment where teams are motivated, knowledgeable and proactive. 

  • Travel as necessary to ensure collaboration and connection.

  • Directs and completes various decisions at all levels ensuring vision of the company is maintained.

Onboard Accounting Policies, Audits, and SOX 

  • Direct oversight of the onboard financial policies that ensure compliance within the organization. 

  • Responsible for the resolution of internal audit findings related to financial policies and procedures. Ensure shipboard Finance is adhering to their processes and reporting structure. 

  • Performs required department related SOX testing, ownership of controls, and processes. 

  • Ensures adherence to policies and procedures and promptly escalates issues to senior management according to established departmental guidelines.

Direct the Crew Appreciation and Service Charge programs within the Holland America Line Organization

  • Provide monthly statistical reporting of Guest Collection for all programs.

  • Direct changes necessary for Payroll Systems to process collections.

Business Manager of the Shipboard Property Management System

  • Serves as subject matter expert of onboard financial systems and processes, manages daily operations, troubleshoots system issues, and analyzes business needs. 

  • Identifies process optimization opportunities and uses big picture view to calibrate priorities that are aligned to the organizational goals.

Collaborate with departments within the organization and understands the impact to the business

  • Assist in championing new ideas.

  • Understands the company vision and strategy. 

  • Provides guidance to direct reports in supporting solutions that are aligned with the organization’s goals.

Project-manage various strategic business programs to ensure optimization and completion which results in efficiency and/or streamlines financial performance. Subject matter expert in miscellaneous processes including Time and Attendance and various payroll projects: CAPS and Brightwell. Directs and conduct Shipboard Operations visits to ensure Shipboard Finance Departments operate in conjunction with company standards and policies.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Scope: The Sr. Manager, Shipboard Finance Operations has broad accountability for the oversight and performance of Holland America Line and Seabourn’s shipboard finance function, ensuring the consistent execution of financial processes, policies, and controls across the fleet. This role serves as the business owner of the shipboard property management system and oversees critical onboard financial operations, including guest billing, revenue accounting, crew payroll and compensation, cash management, inventory accounting, and the Crew Appreciation and Service Charge programs. The position also manages traveling Finance Fleet Managers and provides strategic direction to shipboard finance teams while partnering closely with Controllership, FP&A, Payroll, Operations, and Technology teams to support enterprise initiatives and operational excellence.

  • Problem solving: This role is responsible for addressing complex operational and financial challenges that impact shipboard performance, compliance, and guest experience. The incumbent acts as the subject matter expert for onboard financial systems and processes, leading efforts to troubleshoot system issues, resolve audit findings, strengthen internal controls, and ensure SOX compliance. By evaluating business needs, identifying process inefficiencies, and leveraging technology solutions, the Sr. Manager drives continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and optimize the effectiveness of financial operations across a dynamic and geographically dispersed environment. 

  • Impact: The impact of this role is significant, influencing financial integrity, operational efficiency, compliance, and business performance across Holland America Line and Seabourn. By ensuring adherence to accounting policies, audit requirements, and internal controls, the Sr. Manager safeguards company assets and mitigates financial risk. Through ownership of key programs, financial systems, and strategic projects, the role drives process optimization, improves reporting accuracy, enhances payroll and revenue operations, and supports the adoption of best practices and emerging technologies. Success in this position directly contributes to stronger financial outcomes, improved organizational efficiency, and the consistent delivery of company standards across the fleet.

  • Leadership: The Sr. Manager provides strategic and operational leadership to both shoreside and shipboard finance teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This leader establishes departmental priorities, goals, and performance expectations while coaching and developing Finance Fleet Managers and finance professionals across the fleet. Through regular communication, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional partnership, the role aligns team efforts with organizational objectives, champions new initiatives, and enables informed decision-making. The position requires strong judgment and the ability to independently direct daily operational decisions while maintaining alignment with company vision and financial governance standards.

Essential/Minimum qualifications:

  • Ability to manage time and engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously at a fast pace.

  • Experience managing business/financial planning and analysis processes.

  • Able to multi-task, work independently and balance requests at peak workloads (or change gears quickly for important requests) from various departments and upper management.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools to include Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Strong team management and team collaboration skills.

  • The ability to develop strong relationships across departments and organizations to define and deliver business and process solutions.

  • Ability to work with all levels of management.

  • Excellent active listening and communication skills (verbal and written) in English.

  • Flexibility to travel on short notice for operational shipboard visits.

Essential Experience Required:

  • 5+ years’ experience in managerial role.

  • 3-5 years of shipboard cruise ship experience in a leadership role.

Travel: 25-50% with shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

This position is classified as “in-office.”  As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Holland office in Seattle, WA Monday through Thursday each week.

  • Base Salary Range: $118,400 to $159,900 The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidate’s qualifications and experience uniquely.
