We’re looking for an experienced Public Relations Specialist to fill this hybrid role which is based in our Seattle office. As Public Relations Specialist you’ll be responsible for effectively managing media relations and media events for Seabourn in support of the Senior Manager, Public Relations and team. You’ll interfaces with team members at all levels of the company including senior executives and fosters relationships with key constituent and influencers outside the company.

Responsibilities
- Manage Media Relations and News Bureau
- Field the majority of media queries and generates response with timely and accurate information to meet deadlines. Assign inquiries for response to support staff in department as appropriate. Present recommendations for media opportunities to manager, including executive media interviews and broadcast opportunities. Draft responses and interviews briefs with suggested talking points for manager review.
- Review all incoming media requests (reactive) and present recommendations to manager based on outlet, reach and potential story placement. Manage media cruise concessions, travel arrangements including air, hotel and transfers. Communicate with media to provide guidance to confirm bookings, reserve tours and schedule, develop and produce press kits materials and follow up for story placement. Proactively communicate with hosted media to provide further support and determine what additional product information is needed for story development
- Coordinate with the three key international offices to review proposed media and track hosted media and oversees the creation of a summary report, including measurement. Works with senior manager, Public Relations in this regard.
- Work with agency partners to develop a list of media candidates (proactive) based on strategic direction of editorial goals and sourcing yearly priorities. Presents list to senior manager to recommend journalists to host for best editorial placements, audience reach and ROI. (5%)
- Serve as Seabourn's public relations host on press trips and manages all communication to the ship, port agents, product teams and to senior executives.
- When required, become part of crisis management response team to perform tasks as assigned.
- Branded Content Management
- Manage news release schedule by identifying, drafting and routing release for approval in timely manner to meet distribution timing. Additional communications including proof reading and distribution through web-based programs (PR Newswire and Agility); collaborate with marketing to recommend and confirm news release hyperlinks are loaded, working and trackable.
- Manage online newsroom and decide appropriate sections of web page for materials to be posted. Ensure materials are posted and updated in a timely manner and assign to support staff as needed.
- Draft and update existing media materials for the department. These include company, ship and product fact sheets.
- Lead contact and curator to cull, select, gain approval, delete, add, review and manage all other aspects of the image database and related PR photo links. This includes photos and video.
- Media Events Planning and Management
- Work with PR senior manager on the planning and logistical implementation of media events both shoreside and onboard Seabourn ships. Lead the media component of the events, preparing media lists, invitations, managing RSVPs and confirmation emails. Handle initial drafts of executive and spokesperson messaging. Work closely with senior events manager to ensure events elements are planned properly for the media.
- Directly communicate with talent/celebrity, spokesperson and work with senior manager to manage travel, accommodations and transfers for ship launches, in-port functions and special events. Work with senior manager to handle logistical coordination with air department, port agents and outside hotel and transportation vendors.
- Host events as requested to provide on-site management, coordination, team support, media shoot staffing and more.
- Media Monitoring
- Monitor and measure editorial media placements and independently creates monthly and “ad-hoc” special reports for analysis by senior manage. Analyze coverage to ensure goals are met with publication, reach and product mentions in stories. Generate ROI reports and provide analysis on measured data.
- Research appropriate media contacts, maintains monitoring, and media lists platforms to update contacts, key words and search functions.
- Review media placements and reports based on product launches, hosted trips and trade coverage. Provide accurate reporting to senior manager.
- Keep abreast of competitive news within the cruise and travel industries by regularly reading industry trade publications. Alert senior manager of critical information
- Recommend vendors and participate in review of new vendors to ensure our partners are all “best in class” and proactively liaise with vendors on critical system updates; make recommendations to senior manager.
- Assist in the compilation of monthly data and highlights accomplishments Board Report and meets submission deadline.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Communications, Public Relations, English or a related field.
- 3+ years in public relations, communications and/or related field.
- Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Visio and Adobe Suite.
- Strong writing and grammar skills.
- Must be able to work independently, recognize needs, collaborate with team.
- Successful track record of independently handling multiple and complex events and initiatives.
- Photo and video editing skills, preferred.
- Must be a self starter, willing and able to take initiative and work in a fast paced environment.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build and maintain relationships across teams and departments at all levels.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Holland America is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).
Please note that this is a hybrid position based in Seattle, WA. Candidates must be comfortable coming into the office 3 days/week (Tuesday-Thursday).

- Base Salary Range: $72,200.00-$97,500.00. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and experience uniquely.
