We’re looking for an experienced Manager, Technical Documentation to fill this hybrid role which can be based out of our Seattle or Miami offices. In this critical role you’ll be responsible for the technical documentation and ships drawings control across the Holland America Line & Seabourn fleet of 17 vessels, ensuring that fleet technical documentation and drawings remain compliant and current across the organization. Essential functions include managing OEM service bulletins, developing and coordinating technical drawing updates, and overseeing the shoreside technical library.

You’ll work closely with other operating brands, corporate teams, shoreside directors and executive leadership, the Holland America Line and Seabourn ships management teams, to develop and align document management systems. The main objectives of the position include managing internal processes, effective management of change, and ensuring compliance with Class/Flag requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, experience in technical documentation management, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Documentation Management: Ensure all technical documentation and ship drawings are compliant and current. Own technical documentation, manage and control drawings and documentation effectively. Work with multiple ship classes across the HAL and SBN brands, adding complexity due to the different designs and documentation requirements for Ocean and Expedition vessels.                                                                                 
  • Process and Change Management: Manage internal processes and documentation of changes, ensuring all processes are followed and documents are effectively retained, contributing to organizational efficiency and compliance. Adhere to Corporate Policies and Procedures, including Code of Conduct, Audit Procedures, and control-related responsibilities for financial data.                                                                                     
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Collaboration and coordination are key aspects of this role. Work closely with other operating brands, corporate teams, and ship’s management teams to develop and align document management systems. Liaise with ship’s management teams to maintain drawings and documentation and collaborate with Class/Flag to implement changes. Ships officers will communicate directly with the Manager, Technical Documentation to ensure the accuracy and compliance of ship drawings and documentation.
  • Centralized Documentation Control: Centralized documentation control is another critical responsibility. Collect and manage all OEM service bulletins in a central location, oversee the shore side technical library, and develop central management and coordination of technical drawing updates. Ensure drawing updates from the fleet are stored in a centralized filing system.
  • Project Documentation and Certification: For project documentation and certification, collect final technical project drawings, commissioning data, and certification. Ensure all data is stored in the centralized filing system and that documentation is complete and accurate, supporting regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Degree in Naval Architecture or Ship Construction.
  • 5+ years Cruise ship / Naval Architect experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building.
  • Strong project management, communication, coordination capabilities.
  • 5 years shipboard experience / AutoCAD / understanding of SOLAs requirements.
  • Knowledge of current/impending marine regulations, legislation, SOLAS.
  • Marine equipment and systems technical knowledge.
  • Experience with Office 360 including MS project.
  • Preferred AMOSW experience.
  • Must be able to work independently with senior officers on board our ships.
  • Must be comfortable to liaise independently with authorities including Flag state & Classification societies.
  • Must be able to work effectively with multiple teams within the shore organization. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Holland America is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).

Please note that this is a hybrid position based in Seattle, WA or Miami, FL. Candidates must be comfortable coming into the office 3 days/week (Tuesday-Thursday).

  • Base Salary Range: $83,200.00-$112,300.00. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and experience uniquely.
