We’re looking for an amazing human resources professional to fill this role, which is based in our Seattle office.  You’ll be responsible for taking the lead on employee complaint escalations. You will facilitate all confidential, complex and highly sensitive investigations and grievances as per internal process, as well as provide strategic, tactical support and consultation on employee matters. In addition, you will take the lead on cross brand policy development and alignment both ship and shore side.

  • Oversees employee relations and takes lead on employee relation issues and investigations in collaboration with People Partners across brands.
  • Directs and supports the development of standardized policies and procedures that support People initiatives.
  • Leads project management efforts and process administration of employee relations programs and related functions. 
  • Leads, manages, supports and inspires a team of People resources supporting the People function.
  • Responsible for developing a policy framework for shipboard and Shoreside policies. Leading all efforts to ensure that appropriate People policies are planned, developed and executed with key stakeholder involvement 
  • Liaise with Legal department on matters related to employment law.
  • Closely supports People Brand Partners, COEs including Ethics and Compliance, RAAS and brand leaders on implementing the organization strategy and people initiatives.
  • Analyses and is responsible for the report out of ER trends through reports and metrics and makes recommendations for enhancements. 
  • Measure and report on key performance indicators, provide status updates regarding the results of our operational initiatives, and proactively identify any potential obstacles to our success.
  • Leads and/or participates in various initiatives and special projects, and makes recommendations for risk mitigation, organizational improvements and best practices.
  • Support culture transformation and employee engagement by serving as a role model for company values, foster a positive work environment by exemplifying core values every day, and values teamwork and collaboration within People Team and broader organization.
  • Supports senior leadership in communicating the company's employee relations objectives, policies and culture in a consistent manner and directing it towards improved business results, considerations of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and relevant action plans are embedded in every aspect of the business and employee experience.
  • Promotes an inclusive and harassment-free environment.  
  • Demonstrates integrity, fairness and professionalism in all business dealings.

This position can be 100% remote based with occasional travel to our Seattle, WA and Santa Clarita, CA offices. 


  • Bachelor’s degree and or equivalent proven experience required. HRCI or SHRM HR Certification a plus. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of HR principles and practices, applicable federal, state and local employment laws and governmental compliance requirements.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively in HR leadership or Sr. People Partner role responsible for Employee Relations and/or HR Operations. 
  • Technical HR acumen and experience working in a company environment and knowledge of employee relations, complex investigations, policy writing, development and implementation
  • Strategic HR business Partner and HR Operations experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Employee Relations practices and policies.
  • Ability to understand the needs of the business and people focussed solutions that support all brands within the Group. 
  • Ability to improve current processes.
  • Ability to make decisions on employee impact issues.  
  • Proficiency with MS Office products including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Directs and performs within areas of responsibility. Consults with leadership on major decisions related to special projects and relevant budgetary impact issues.
  • Openness to hearing other voices and seeking to understand as much as being understood.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and effective supervisory skills. 
  • Sound judgment and ability to develop rapport, maintain regular contact with company management community at all levels, and build win-win situations.  
  • Ability to function as a change agent, act with discretion and maintain professional demeanor at all times.
  • Must be able to take ownership, handle multiple tasks, prioritize, resolve complex problems, maintain confidentiality, and work independently.  
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Holland America is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).
