The Holland America Summer Internship Program is a 10-week paid (remote) summer internship opportunity designed to provide exposure and insight to professional careers in the amazing leisure travel, cruise industry. The selected interns will work on departmental projects as well as participate in professional development and enrichment activities.
2026 Program Dates
- Program runs 10 weeks from June 15th - August 21st.
Eligibility
Eligible candidates are enrolled in a four-year accredited undergraduate program (where they are at least a rising junior) or in a graduate/Ph.D. program and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
MUST NOT be a graduating senior in the summer 2026.
Compensation
Undergraduate - $25.00/hr, Graduate - $35.00/hr, Ph.D. - $45.00/hr
Intern Project Details
The Learning and Development Coordinator Intern will support the Learning & Development (L&D) team in advancing training governance, evaluating training effectiveness, and establishing key performance metrics. This role is ideal for an undergraduate student with a strong interest in organizational development, instructional design, or HR analytics. The intern will gain hands-on experience in the end-to-end training lifecycle, from needs analysis to reporting, while contributing to high-impact projects that shape the employee learning experience.
This internship offers exposure to both strategic and operational aspects of L&D. The intern will assist in maintaining training records and materials, analyzing feedback and performance data, and supporting the design and development of training materials. The role also includes opportunities to collaborate cross-functionally, attend stakeholder meetings, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the L&D function.
Responsibilities
Training Governance Support – Assist in maintaining training records, tracking compliance, and ensuring alignment with internal standards and audit requirements.
Training Evaluation & Analysis – Collect and analyze feedback and performance data to assess training effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
L&D Metrics and Reporting – Help define, track, and visualize key learning metrics using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
Instructional Design Support – Assist in the development or revision of training materials (Computer Based Training/Instructor Led Training), including storyboarding, editing, and formatting.
Project Coordination – Support L&D initiatives by scheduling meetings, preparing documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Requirements
Knowledge of food and beverage industry trends and product knowledge is required.
Proficiency using MS office Suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook & MS Teams.
Familiarity with Data Visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI) is preferred but not required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information and present findings clearly to diverse audiences.
Ability to work independently and in a group environment with excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
- Ability to analyze data and draw actionable insights, particularly in evaluating training effectiveness and performance metrics.
Ability to prioritize and maximize efficiency.
Well organized and able to communicate effectively with colleagues and managers.
The types of duties the students will perform will vary and may require some technical tasks, projects and/or work that may require specific proficiencies, technical abilities and/or computer skills.
Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Education, Business Administration or a related field.
