Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Scope: The Data Platform & Analytics Engineer operates with significant autonomy over the design and implementation of Carnival Corporation's corporate data platform. This role holds decision-making authority over data architecture, pipeline design, MDM entity modelling, source system integration, and data governance implementation within the platform. Day-to-day work spans ingestion pipeline development, Snowflake layer management, MDM configuration, and ongoing data quality operations. The role works in close partnership with the AI / ML Engineer to ensure curated data layers meet AI workload requirements and collaborates with the Data Governance Lead and departmental data stewards to implement classification, lineage, and access standards. Common challenges include managing complexity across a growing number of source systems, maintaining MDM golden record quality at scale, and ensuring the platform remains performant and cost-efficient as data volumes grow. Candidates who combine strong architecture instincts with a hands-on approach to delivery will thrive in this role.
Problem solving: Demonstrates strong analytical thinking to design, build, and operate a scalable, governed enterprise data platform that supports analytics and AI use cases. Translates complex, multi-source business data requirements into a cohesive Snowflake-based architecture spanning RAW, MDM, and Curated layers. Designs resilient ELT/ETL pipelines that handle schema evolution, data quality issues, and upstream source system changes gracefully. Apply architectural best practices to resolve performance, scalability, and cost challenges in Snowflake environments. Diagnoses and remediate data pipeline failures, data quality defects, and platform incidents using structured root cause analysis. Designs effective master data models, matching rules, and survivorship logic to resolve duplicate or conflicting enterprise data entities. Competing balance needs of governance, usability, performance, and speed when deciding how data should be modeled, stored, and exposed. Uses data observability signals, quality metrics, and lineage to proactively identify risks before they impact consumers or AI workloads. Makes informed trade-offs between build vs. configure, platform capabilities vs. custom logic, and short-term delivery vs. long-term sustainability.
Impact: Enables trusted, high-quality data at scale, directly powering Carnival Corporation’s analytics maturity and AI-driven initiatives. Delivers a reliable Snowflake data platform that consistently provides clean, governed, and timely data to downstream analysts and AI/ML Engineers. Establishes trusted “golden records” through MDM that improve enterprise reporting accuracy and cross-system alignment. Reduces data-related rework and downstream failures by enforcing strong data quality, validation, and governance standards. Improves time-to-value for new analytics and AI use cases by accelerating source onboarding and standardized data modeling. Optimizes platform cost and performance through proactive warehouse tuning, query optimization, and resource governance. Increases confidence in enterprise data by implementing transparent lineage, cataloging, and access controls. Ensures AI-bound data meets strict quality, freshness, and completeness requirements, directly influencing the success of AI agents and models. Creates reusable patterns, templates, and reference architectures that scale as the number of domains and data sources grows.
Leadership: Acts as a technical and architectural leader who sets standards, builds trust, and enables others through expertise and ownership. Owns the Snowflake data platform end-to-end, including architecture, pipelines, governance implementation, and day-to-day operations. Serves as a trusted partner to AI / ML Engineers, data stewards, and business stakeholders to align data structures with consumption needs. Establishes and reinforces architectural and governance best practices across all data layers. Leads technical decision-making for data modeling, MDM design, and platform tooling with a long-term enterprise perspective. Proactively identifies risks in data quality, platform scalability, or governance compliance and addresses them before they become blockers. Leads incident response for data platform and pipeline issues, driving blameless postmortems and systemic improvements. Mentors’ peers and enables cross-team success by producing high-quality documentation, runbooks, and architectural diagrams. Demonstrates accountability, consistency, and attention to detail in maintaining a platform others can rely on with confidence.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics or Statistics or a related field.
6+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
Demonstrated experience designing and building production data pipelines and cloud data platforms
Hands-on experience with MDM platforms and enterprise data governance tools
Experience working in a corporate or enterprise environment preferred
Strong hands-on expertise with Snowflake including architecture design, performance tuning, and platform administration
Proficiency with dbt for data transformation, testing, and documentation

Experience with AWS S3 and cloud-based data storage and export patterns
Strong MDM experience required: entity modelling, golden record management, deduplication, and survivorship logic
Experience with data governance implementation including classification, lineage, access controls, and data cataloguing
Strong data architecture instincts with a track record of applying and enforcing best practices
Proficiency in SQL and Python for data transformation and pipeline development
Informatica MDM experience is a strong plus
Experience with Snowflake Horizon Data Governance or Informatica Data Governance is a strong plus
Familiarity with Snowflake AI tooling and preparing data for ML/AI consumption
