The FRA Senior Accountant executes all aspects of the monthly general ledger close process, including ensuring completeness and accuracy of transactions, accurately recording monthly journal entries, performing analytical review of results and researching variances, and completes monthly reconciliations.  This individual directly assists the FRA Senior Manager in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deliverables. The Senior accountant will lead special projects to provide improvements in assigned areas. Responsible with developing subject matter expertise in areas assigned and is also tasked with assisting management in developing the FRA staff accountants. This role works in conjunction with other teams across the business and within CCL Finance, including Fleet Finance, Revenue accounting, and FPA.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting process for assigned areas, which could include: Fuel, R&M, Drydock, Comp & Benefits, Pension, P&I, Leases, IT, or other.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy in the preparation and posting of monthly close adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations, research variances, prepare documentation and support, and follow up to clear reconciling items.     
  • Lead and manage special projects and requests from management and operations. Manage projects from beginning to end including coordinating resources, managing timeline, and reporting on progress to management. Identify continuous improvement opportunities through automation and/or efficiency initiatives.   
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for senior management, including P&L Bridge, Balance Sheet package, and CFO package.     
  • Perform analytical review of financial results while working with the business and understand factors driving variances. Coordinate variance analysis completion for CCL Finance teams.
  • Prepare quarter and year end deliverables to be submitted to corporate, including certification packages, reporting packages, and GARS variance analysis. 
  • Prepare and make presentations to management and peers on various accounting topics as required.
  • Supervise staff accountants and other senior accountants as required to complete assigned projects and cross-train where appropriate to ensure department coverage.
  • Assist management with internal and external auditors and respond to requests in a timely manner.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or MBA
  • CPA a plus 
  • 4 or more years of experience working in public or private accounting. Experience with full-cycle accounting, month-end closing process and variance analysis
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite with advanced-level skills in Excel. Knowledge of or ability to learn Oracle Financials or other related financial software.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

Travel: No or very little travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Position requires some weekend/evening work for monthly and quarterly closings.

This position is classified as “remote.”  As a remote role, it allows employees to work full-time from their home. It may also require regular travel to Carnival headquarters in Miami, FL for in-office collaboration.  Sourcing of candidates is primarily done in Carnival’s remote hubs of Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas.  If the search is extended past those areas, candidates must be located in one of the following U.S. states:  FL, GA, TX and NC
