Job Description

The Senior Water Treatment Systems Manager supports multiple destinations and is responsible for the strategic leadership and overall oversight of the facility’s Seawater Reverse Osmosis desalination plant and Wastewater Treatment System. This role sets long-term vision and goals, drives organizational performance, ensures regulatory compliance, and promotes operational excellence. The Senior Manager collaborates across departments to develop systemic improvements, optimize processes, and uphold environmental and safety standards, ensuring sustainable water quality and system integrity.

1. Operations LeadershipProvide strategic direction and oversight for the operation and maintenance of all potable water production systems, including Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Develop and implement long-term plans to maintain and expand potable water production and storage capacity, supporting organizational growth, guest experiences, and resident needs. Oversee the monitoring of water quality, pressure, flow rates, and system performance, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.Offer high-level technical guidance during ship calls, peak operational periods, and special events to ensure seamless water supply management.Foster collaboration across Engineering, HESS, Operations, Food & Beverage, and Facilities teams to develop comprehensive water system strategies and requirements. Lead emergency response planning and coordinate organizational efforts during water supply interruptions, contamination events, or wastewater system failures, ensuring rapid and effective resolution. Establish and maintain operational readiness plans for hurricanes and other emergency scenarios, aligning with organizational continuity objectives.

2. Maintenance & Reliability
Develop and oversee the execution of comprehensive annual maintenance plans and capital replacement strategies to ensure the integrity and longevity of water and wastewater infrastructure. Provide strategic direction for the management of spare parts inventories for critical water and wastewater systems, optimizing supply chain efficiency.Lead coordination of repairs and contractor activities related to water infrastructure, ensuring alignment with organizational standards and long-term reliability goals.Identify and drive initiatives to enhance system reliability, operational efficiency, and sustainability across water and wastewater assets.Provide executive oversight for the operation and maintenance of water storage tanks, pumps, distribution lines, and associated infrastructure, ensuring operational excellence.Establish and monitor preventative maintenance programs for all water-related assets, promoting proactive asset management. Oversee the strategic management of the island’s wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems, ensuring compliance with design parameters and regulatory standards.Lead efforts to monitor treatment processes, effluent quality, and environmental compliance, ensuring environmental stewardship and regulatory adherence.Direct laboratory testing protocols, review operational records, and utilize data analytics to inform strategic decisions.Ensure proper management of sludge handling, disposal, and adherence to environmental requirements, aligning with sustainability objectives.

3. Compliance & Reporting
Oversee the preparation and review of comprehensive daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.Monitor and analyze key performance indicators such as water production, consumption, wastewater treatment volumes, chemical usage, and equipment reliability to inform strategic decision-making.  Ensure meticulous maintenance of maintenance records, operating logs, and compliance documentation to support regulatory audits and organizational accountability.Provide regular executive updates to Island Leadership on system performance, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.Lead the development, management, and oversight of operating budgets for water and wastewater systems, aligning financial planning with organizational objectives.Track and analyze chemical consumption, utility costs, and maintenance expenditures to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resource allocation.Develop technical specifications and strategic recommendations for equipment purchases and capital projects, supporting sustainable growth and operational excellence.Support procurement processes for chemicals, spare parts, equipment, and contracted services, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and cost-effectiveness.

4. Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop the Water Systems team, fostering high-performance execution of duties and operational excellence. Establish and manage work schedules to ensure continuous 24/7 coverage, maintaining system reliability and responsiveness. Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and implement competency assessments to support professional growth and skill development.Promote a robust safety culture by ensuring strict adherence to health, environment, safety, and security (HESS) policies and procedures, mitigating risks and ensuring a safe working environment.

5. Health, Safety & Environmental
Enforce and uphold safety protocols related to chemical handling, confined space entry, high-pressure systems, and electrical equipment to ensure a safe working environment. Promote and support environmental sustainability initiatives and resource conservation practices throughout operations.Ensure full compliance with all applicable Bahamian environmental regulations, permits, and organizational standards to uphold environmental integrity.Maintain accurate and comprehensive environmental records, testing results, and regulatory reports to support transparency and accountability. Coordinate and facilitate inspections and audits conducted by government agencies and third-party consultants, ensuring timely and thorough review processes. Support the development and implementation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental Management Plans (EMP), and sustainability initiatives to promote environmentally responsible operations.

Essential/Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience managing SWRO systems and/or biological wastewater treatment processes.

Essential Experience Required

• 10+ years of experience in water treatment, desalination, or wastewater operations.
• Strong understanding of membrane technology, pretreatment systems, and high pressure pump operation.
• Knowledge of activated sludge, MBR, MBBR, or similar wastewater treatment processes.
• Proficiency with BluMetric systems, PLCs, and process instrumentation.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, technical manuals, and laboratory results.
