This position is based at RelaxAway Half Moon Cay, located on the island of Little San Salvador. It follows a rotational schedule, including designated periods of work with on-site company-provided housing, followed by scheduled time off off-island. While this role may support both RelaxAway Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays on Eleuthera, its primary location is firmly on Little San Salvador.
The Public Health Officer is responsible for driving compliance and is committed to the highest public health standards in the areas of disease surveillance, prevention and control of infectious illnesses, food safety, potable and recreational water safety, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) through structured audits, training, and effective communication.

RelaxAway at Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays - subsidiaries of Carnival Corporation & plc, are seeking a dynamic and service-focused Public Health Officer to join our destination team.
The role will also play a critical role in the broader Carnival Corporation Global Ports and Destinations Development (GPDD) team. GPDD is responsible for the development and operations of our six existing Carnival-owned destinations in the Caribbean: Grand Turk (Turks and Caicos), Mahogany Bay (Roatan, Honduras), Puerta Maya (Cozumel, Mexico), Amber Cove (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic), Half Moon Cay (Little San Salvador, The Bahamas), and Princess Cays (Eleuthera, The Bahamas). GPDD is also responsible for the development and operations of Celebration Key, expected to open in July 2025. The six (6) existing destinations are expected to welcome more than six (6) million visitors in 2024, with that number expected to grow significantly once Celebration Key is opened, and they include a variety of world-leading amenities such as: pristine beaches, pools, swim-up bars, water activities, food and beverage, retail, and cultural exhibits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Public Health Officer is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Conducting internal audits of shoreside public health programs and activities to verify compliance with applicable requirements. - Conducting internal audits and inspections of food and beverage operations to verify compliance with applicable requirements.
- Conducting daily public health monitoring rounds of targeted areas and operations to ensure compliance with company policy and to evaluate public health gaps and risks onboard.
- Ensuring that departmental inspections are conducted and recorded appropriately.
- Providing public health audit reports to port destination management regarding all public health and infection control procedures, operational preparedness, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use, and disinfection protocols.
- Delivering information on public health observations, through feedback and coaching, based on trends and audit results to management to address port destination operations.
- Conducting a minimum of one public health unannounced inspection of an area per week.
- Providing disciplinary recommendations on reported public health violations.
- Overseeing the implementation and compliance with prevention and control activities at all response levels, for communicable diseases.
- Assisting with investigating illness cases and contact tracing to identify exposure and transmission risks to individuals, areas, or events.
- Overseeing the correct and safe storage, par levels, condition, and use of all infection control-related PPE, disinfectants, hand sanitizers, and other supplies and related equipment. Ensures the inventory of pesticides, IPM equipment, and PPE is stocked and fully functional.
- Coordinating drills to ensure all teams are adequately trained, equipped, and prepared to effectively respond to outbreaks of communicable diseases.
- Conducting ad hoc training of shore excursion operators and private destination team members based on gap analyses or at the direction of the HESS Department.
- Reporting any safety and/or public health concerns to the appropriate authorities. Assists in responding to local health authority requests for public health information, data, or investigations.
- Coordinating all pest control activities and applies appropriate pest control method(s) for targeted pests. Ensuring compliance with all regulations regarding the safe and secure storage, use, and disposal of approved pesticides and related chemicals and used packaging/container.
- Accompanying external or third party pest control applicators or service providers during routine and emergency applications/services.
- Assisting the HESS Manager with any other job-related tasks as requested.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Sanitary Engineering, Medical & Biological sciences, or closely related fields.
- 5+ years’ experience in Infection Control, training, Potable Water, Recreational Water Facility or IPM Certification or qualifications preferred.
- Meticulous in conducting inspections and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Fluency in conversational English.
