Job Description


The PFSO is responsible for overseeing the safety and security of all visitors and personnel, while supporting a positive guest experience. Key responsibilities include managing facilities, coordinating activities, ensuring guest and staff safety, and maintaining overall security standards at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destination. The role involves liaising with local authorities, supervising and managing security staff, and supporting environmental conservation initiatives. The PFSO ensures compliance with security policies, health and safety regulations, and operational procedures. This position reports to the shoreside Security Services Port Security Manager and the Company Security Officer.

Incident Investigation & Security Operations 

  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and injuries to identify unsafe conditions, root causes, and prevent recurrences.
  • Conduct interviews of all individuals involved in incidents/accidents as needed.
  • Respond to reports of security threats, incidents, and breaches, taking a leadership role during response.
  • Conduct routine security inspections and patrols of the port facility to verify the effectiveness of security measures.
  • Ensure security equipment is properly operated, tested, calibrated, and maintained, including daily CCTV checks.
  • Liaise with government, law enforcement, visiting vessels, fire, and medical personnel during crises.

Compliance, Reporting & Documentation 

  • Ensure reporting protocols are followed and all reports comply with the ISPS code.

  • Maintain accurate records of occurrences that may threaten port security and report to relevant authorities.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP).

  • Conduct initial and subsequent comprehensive security surveys and Port Facility Security Assessments (PFSA).

  • Verify that security personnel comply with policies, procedures, and SOPs.

Training, Mentoring & Preparedness 

  • Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and effective performance feedback to security personnel.

  • Identify training and development needs and ensure all mandatory security training is completed.

  • Communicate details and objectives of security drills and exercises; debrief and provide feedback after drills.

  • Contribute to continuous refinement and improvement of security policies and procedures.

Collaboration & Guest Experience Support 

  • Collaborate with shipboard security and other departments to ensure smooth operations.

  • Support the security team in supervising personnel and coordinating activities.

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment that enhances the overall guest experience.

  • Assist with the management of security personnel performance and operational coordination.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years with CCL as Chief Security Officer. 

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to analyze situations, assess risks, and make sound decisions independently.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting.

  • Knowledge of security procedures, emergency response, and safety protocols.

  • Competence in operating and monitoring security equipment, including CCTV systems.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment.

  • Leadership and team supervision skills for guiding security personnel.

  • Commitment to ethical behavior, compliance, and promoting a safe workplace.

  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams, law enforcement, and external authorities.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests.  
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers, and co-workers. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be physically fit.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment as needed.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data entry and reporting tools.
  • Detail orientated with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to multi-task and think critically
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, especially in handling multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • May be requested to work a shift schedule while at any of the destinations.
