Job Description

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks that support the efficient operation of the Engineering department at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destination. This role involves optimizing the performance of mechanical equipment, machinery, and systems to ensure smooth and reliable operations. The Mechanical Technician assists engineers in analyzing performance data, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance. They are also responsible for maintaining mechanical systems, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall operational effectiveness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Mechanical Maintenance & Troubleshooting 

• Assisting the site engineer with mechanical design and maintenance tasks.
• Developing and implementing mechanical maintenance plans to prevent costly equipment breakdowns.
• Troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions and breakdowns, as well as performing repairs.
• Installing and performing diagnostic tests on mechanical systems.
• Performing routine inspections of machinery to identify potential issues before they become critical.
• Assisting with the installation or replacement of mechanical components as needed.
• Supporting emergency repairs and responding quickly to machinery failures

Equipment Optimization & Efficiency 

• Optimizing mechanical efficiency by adjusting machinery and equipment settings.
• Monitoring the availability of parts and replenishing supplies.
• Evaluating mechanical systems performance and recommending improvements.
• Assisting with energy-saving initiatives and maintenance practices to reduce operational costs.
• Collaborating with engineering teams to implement upgrades and enhance equipment lifespan.

Documentation & Compliance 

• Documenting processes and maintaining mechanical service records.
• Maintaining a tidy work environment and adhering to industry regulations.
• Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
• Maintaining accurate logs of maintenance activities and repairs performed.
• Reporting any operational hazards or non-compliance issues to the supervisor.

Training & Safety 

• Training co-workers on the safe and efficient use of mechanical machinery and equipment.
• Promoting a culture of safety and adherence to company HESS policies.
• Conducting toolbox talks or safety briefings related to mechanical operations.
• Ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices.
• Assisting in onboarding new team members for mechanical tasks and safety protocols.

• Proficiency in mechanical design and diagnostic testing software.

• Great organizational and time management abilities.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma; 
• Associates Degree in mechanical engineering preferred or equivalent experience is required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus 
• A minimum of two years' experience as a mechanical technician in a related industry. 
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering designs, installations, maintenance, and repairs. 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: 

• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be physically fit. 
• Prolonged periods standing and working outdoors. 
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. 
• All island employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• May be requested to work a shift schedule while at any of the destinations.
