The General Technician supports safe, efficient, and reliable operations for systems across port destination facilities. This role performs day‑to‑day technical, mechanical, and general maintenance work across outdoor, indoor, and waterfront environments. Responsibilities include equipment servicing, facility, furniture and fixture upkeep, basic repairs, inspections, and basic water-systems assistance where required.
This position is hands‑on, operating in a dynamic cruise‑port environment to ensure all guest‑facing and operational areas remain functional, safe, and compliant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Maintenance & Technical Support:
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of facilities, equipment, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.
- Support electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, and other technical teams with general repair tasks following supervisor guidance.
- Provide support for water systems and supporting equipment (Advanced maintenance, dosing, and regulatory operations are performed by certified personnel; this role assists only with basic upkeep, inspections, and reporting).
- Perform daily facility walk-downs and report issues requiring advanced technical intervention promptly.
- Assist with daily upkeep of tools, work areas, storage rooms, and equipment.
Facility & Grounds Upkeep:
- Support landscaping, irrigation, path maintenance, minor painting, and general facility care.
- Respond to maintenance tickets and assigned work orders within assigned service level expectations.
- Help ensure guest areas, staff areas, and operational spaces remain clean, functional, and hazard-free.
Communication & Coordination:
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other departments about task status and operational needs.
- Report equipment issues, delays, or resource needs promptly.
- Support cross‑department operational activities and special events as required.
Quality Assurance & Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to established operational procedures and safety protocols.
- Ensure adherence to environmental and regulatory standards, especially regarding RO and wastewater systems.
- Identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions to maintain operational consistency and reliability.
Additional Duties:
- Assist with tool management, inventory checks, and basic documentation of work activities.
- Provide Technical support for special events, guest services, or facility changes (as assigned).
- Support strategic system/facility improvement projects and initiatives as required.
- This role may receive task direction from other trade leads depending on operational needs.
SKILLS SPECIFICS:
- Experience in facilities or technical operations, preferably in a hospitality or resort environment.
- Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and landscaping systems.
- Familiarity with RO and wastewater plant operations is a strong advantage.
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management systems and computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required.
- Basic maintenance or technical experience preferred.
- Additional education, courses or certifications in Hospitality or a related field is a plus.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physically fit and able to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Must have full range of motion and sensory capability to participate in emergency drills.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment as needed.
- May need to stand for long periods of time.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- The role involves working in a fast-paced, dynamic cruise port environment where passenger safety, timely operations, and excellent customer service are a priority.
- Work is typically based at the front of the terminal but may require travel throughout the port facilities for operational oversight.
- The position may require flexibility in work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the cruise schedules.
- Work may take place near water, machinery, or moving vehicles (proper training provided).
- May be requested to work a shift schedule while at any of the destinations.
