The Audio Trainer, Entertainment Technical supports the delivery of consistent audio standards across shipboard entertainment operations by providing technical training, coaching, and operational support for onboard audio teams. This role delivers hands-on instruction in live entertainment audio systems, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and safe working practices within a cruise line entertainment environment.

The position partners with Entertainment Technical, Production, and shipboard leadership teams to support onboarding, ongoing development, and operational readiness of audio personnel. The role focuses on execution of established training programs and continuous improvement of technical capability while ensuring alignment with company standards, safety guidelines, and guest experience expectations.

Essential Functions:

Training Delivery & Technical Support:

  • Deliver hands-on and classroom-based technical audio training for shipboard entertainment technicians and related team members.

  • Provide instruction on live sound fundamentals, audio system setup, signal flow, mixing techniques, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and safe equipment operation.

  • Support trainees during rehearsals, technical runs, and operational scenarios to reinforce learning objectives and technical standards.

  • Administer practical and written assessments to evaluate technical proficiency and training progress.

  • Provide coaching and constructive feedback to support trainee development and operational readiness.

  • Assist with updates to training materials, reference guides, and standard operating procedures to ensure alignment with operational needs and evolving technologies.

  • Support setup, testing, and maintenance of training equipment and audio systems used within training environments.

Operational Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

  • Partner with Entertainment Operations, Production, Music, and shipboard teams to support consistent execution of audio standards.

  • Assist in identifying technical training gaps and operational improvement opportunities.

  • Provide technical guidance related to onboard audio systems, show support, and entertainment operations.

  • Participate in technical rehearsals, show support activities, and operational reviews as needed.

  • Support implementation of new equipment, show technologies, and updated operational procedures.

  • Foster a collaborative and professional work environment.

  • Support knowledge sharing and teamwork across shoreside and shipboard entertainment technical teams.

  • Participate in team meetings, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Administration & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate training records, assessment results, attendance logs, and trainee progress documentation.

  • Assist with tracking training equipment inventory and reporting maintenance or replacement needs.

  • Prepare reports and provide updates regarding trainee progress, operational observations, and training completion.

  • Ensure training materials and technical documentation remain organized and current.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Promote safe operation and handling of entertainment audio systems and related equipment.

  • Reinforce compliance with company policies, HESS guidelines, and entertainment technical safety procedures.

  • Support safe rehearsal and training environments by identifying and escalating potential hazards.

  • Ensure proper use of hearing protection and safe audio level practices during training and live operations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Scope: This role supports technical audio training and operational consistency across shipboard entertainment operations. The position contributes to the development of onboard technical talent and helps maintain entertainment audio standards that support the overall guest experience.

  • Problem solving: The role requires practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to address technical and operational audio challenges in training and live entertainment environments. The individual must assess trainee skill levels, identify improvement areas, and support effective technical solutions while balancing operational priorities.     

  • Impact: The Audio Trainer contributes to the consistency and quality of onboard entertainment operations by supporting technical development, operational readiness, and adherence to entertainment technical standards.                                                                                                                                                            Leadership:   This role provides functional guidance and coaching to shipboard entertainment technical personnel through training, mentoring, and technical support. The position collaborates with cross-functional teams but does not typically have direct people management responsibilities.                                                     

  • Knowledge: Understanding of workplace policies and procedures / Familiarity with team collaboration tools and techniques. Live Entertainment Audio, Theatre, Theatre w/Audio Design & Production. Strong computer skills (P/C Windows & Mac), knowledge of industry standard software/hardware, proficient in Microsoft Office 365 suite Major in audio technology or music production Audio signal processing, sound design, mixing, and mastering. Knowledge of entertainment audio refurbishment and system upgrades, including preventive maintenance. 

  • Skills: Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Abilities: Ability to maintain reliable and consistent attendance / Capacity to be punctual and meet deadlines / Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work as part of a team / Demonstrated professionalism in all interactions and tasks.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Live Entertainment Audio, Theatre Production, Audio Design, or related field preferred.

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Prior training, coaching, facilitation, or peer mentoring experience preferred.

  • Experience working with live sound systems, digital audio consoles, and entertainment technical equipment.

  • Working knowledge of industry-standard audio software, hardware, and playback systems.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office 365, Windows, and Mac operating systems.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to assess training needs and deliver effective technical instruction.

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and support skill development of team members.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Ability to adapt to changing operational priorities and work effectively in fast-paced environments.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse and multicultural teams.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records, reports, and training documentation.

  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships across departments and teams.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays, based on operational needs.

  • Knowledge of live entertainment audio operations, theatre production practices, and technical troubleshooting.

  • 2–3 years of live entertainment audio, theatre production, or related technical experience required.

  • Experience supporting live entertainment audio operations in theatre, production, cruise, or hospitality environments.

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining entertainment audio equipment.

  • Experience delivering hands-on technical instruction or peer coaching preferred.

  • Experience working in fast-paced operational environments with changing priorities.

  • Experience supporting safe work practices and compliance with operational procedures.

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential..

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

This position is classified as “in-office.”  As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays.  Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
