Job Summary

The Lifeguard plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all guests and visitors utilizing the aquatic facilities at Grand Turk Cruise Center. This position is responsible for monitoring beach and pool areas, enforcing safety rules and regulations, responding to emergencies, and providing exceptional customer service. The successful candidate must be able to quickly assess situations, make sound decisions under pressure, and work effectively as part of a lifeguard team to prevent accidents and respond to emergencies.

Job Requirements

  • Successfully pass a pre-employment practical water skills assessment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Strong swimming ability and confidence in varying water conditions.
  • Ability to quickly assess and respond to changing situations involving guests participating in aquatic activities.
  • Knowledge of aquatic safety standards, operational procedures, and emergency response protocols.
  • Understanding of first aid, CPR, AED operation, and emergency medical response techniques.
  • Ability to remain calm, alert, and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Continuously monitor assigned beach, pool, and surrounding areas to ensure guest safety and compliance with facility rules.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, providing rescue assistance, first aid, CPR, and AED support within the scope of training until medical personnel arrive.
  • Enforce all beach and pool rules consistently, professionally, and fairly.
  • Follow established Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and emergency procedures at all times.
  • Conduct regular inspections of assigned zones to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and cleanliness concerns, and report findings to the Supervisor.
  • Complete incident reports and maintain accurate records as required.
  • Perform all required pre-shift inspections and documentation.
  • Maintain order and guest safety in aquatic and adjacent recreational areas.
  • Ensure emergency rescue equipment, including rescue tubes, backboards, signage, and related equipment, is available, operational, and properly secured.
  • Provide guests with information regarding pool and beach operations, safety guidelines, and facility amenities.
  • Assist with line handling operations during ship docking activities when required.
  • Carry out additional duties assigned by the Security and Maintenance Manager or other designated supervisors.
  • Comply with all Grand Turk Cruise Center policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and represent the Turks and Caicos Islands with professionalism, courtesy, and pride.
  • Perform any other business-related duties as reasonably assigned by the employer.

  • Maintain the physical fitness, endurance, and swimming proficiency required to perform all job duties effectively.
  • Present a professional appearance and uphold company grooming standards.
  • Interact courteously and respectfully with guests, colleagues, and visitors, serving as a positive role model at all times.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required meetings, training sessions, drills, and facility development programs.

Language Requirements

  • Ability to speak English clearly, professionally, and courteously with guests, employees, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English sufficiently to understand policies, procedures, instructions, and safety documentation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information, respond to inquiries, and provide direction to guests, managers, and fellow employees in both written and verbal formats.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, swim, bend, reach, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
  • Frequently required to use hands and arms to handle equipment and perform rescue activities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess the visual, hearing, and verbal abilities necessary to recognize hazards, monitor aquatic environments, and communicate effectively during routine operations and emergency situations.
  • Must be physically capable of participating in emergency response drills and lifesaving procedures.
  • Full range of motion in arms and legs is required to perform swimming rescues and other essential job functions.
