CSMART is currently looking for a full time Senior Instructor (Technical) as part of the Operations department.
Reporting directly to the Principal Instructor (Technical), this role is central to delivering high-quality simulation and classroom training, developing course content, and mentoring and coaching fellow instructors. The Senior Instructor also acts as deputy to the Principal Instructor when required and contributes to the planning and oversight of technical training activities. This role is ideal for a seasoned maritime technical professional with a passion for teaching, mentoring, and operational excellence
Duties & Responsibilities
As a Senior Instructor (Technical), your responsibilities will include:
Delivering training and appraisals to shipboard technical staff
Leading and coaching a team of instructors, consultants, and checkers
Liaising with stakeholders to ensure readiness for training courses/events
Fostering a climate of growth by encouraging continuous learning, innovation in training delivery, and team collaboration.
Acting as a checker during Continuous Development and Promotion Appraisals
Managing course administration and ensuring audit readiness
Conducting Planning, Progress, and Appraisal interviews
Developing and maintaining course content in collaboration with the Future Curriculum and R&D team
Supporting instructor promotions and professional development processes
Ensuring proper resource planning
Staying current with industry practices, technology, and regulations
Participating in accident/incident investigations and ship visits to maintain operational relevance.
Representing CSMART in external forums and interdepartmental initiatives
Requirements & Experience
Minimum 10+ years of experience in a technical maritime field (at sea or shore-based)
At least 5 years of experience as an instructor
Proven experience in team and project management
Extensive expertise in at least one technical course area
Previous roles such as Chief Engineer, Senior Electrical Engineer , Staff Chief Engineer, Senior First Engineer, or First Engineer are highly valued
Skills (Technical/ Language / Personal)
Strong subject matter expertise in marine engineering (technical mindset).
Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Works well in multi-cultural team environments and on individual assignments
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suit (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Copilot)
Strong project and people management skills.
Fluent in written and spoken English.
